A Community Rescue in Suffern ❤️🐾

Rockland Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation received an urgent call—a fawn was stuck in a fence in Suffern. Without hesitation, Andres grabbed some tools and ran out the door.

Meanwhile, one of the transport team members connected with the Suffern Volunteer Fire Department, who said they’d meet them on-site.

When they arrived, the poor fawn was visibly distressed—struggling, kicking, and frightened. They gently covered her face with a blanket to help calm her, reducing her stress while they waited. Just moments later, the firefighters arrived and immediately jumped into action.

Andres carefully held her back legs while the firefighters spread the bars of the fence—just enough for her to slip free. Within seconds, she was out! Aside from a bit of fur loss and a few superficial scrapes, she was okay—and she ran off beautifully into the woods.

This moment was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together. We’re incredibly grateful to the Suffern Fire Department for their quick response, compassion, and dedication. They truly exemplify what it means to serve—not just people, but animals in need.

The operation marked a decisive turning point, eventually leading to the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control. The fighting on D-Day came at a tremendous cost, with thousands of soldiers killed or wounded on the first day alone.
