VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. — Rockland Lake’s beloved Knickerbocker Ice Festival — originally planned for January 24–25 — has been postponed due to the recent winter storm and frigid conditions, organizers announced. The festival will now take place Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Rockland Lake State Park.
The annual winter celebration highlights the region’s historic role in the ice-harvesting industry and returns this year as part of the area’s 250th anniversary festivities. Visitors can expect large-scale ice sculptures by top sculptors, opportunities to watch igloos being made, warming fires, food trucks, and family-friendly activities throughout the weekend. Admission is free, with a $10 per car parking charge.
Organizers encouraged residents and visitors to make the most of the delayed dates, offering a chance to experience the artistry and history that have made the event a winter favorite. Attendees will also be able to enjoy ice-themed demonstrations and historic displays that celebrate Rockland Lake’s once-central role in supplying ice around the world.
Officials say the postponement was necessary to ensure safe conditions following inclement weather that impacted preparations at the park. With the new dates now set, the festival is expected to draw crowds from across the county and beyond.
