The Clarkstown Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of all drivers, passengers and pedestrians on our roadways.
The national distracted driving high visibility enforcement (HVE) campaign kicks off April 1 with a new tagline, Put the Phone Away or Pay. This distracted driving enforcement campaign reminds drivers of the deadly dangers and the legal consequences – including fines – of distracted driving.
Distracted driving is not just a thoughtless mistake. It is a deadly trend on American roadways, and it is getting worse. We must all do our part.
32,657 people died in distraction-affected crashes over the 10-year period from 2012 to 2021. In 2021 there were 3,522 people killed and an estimated additional 362,415 people injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving distracted drivers. This was an increase of 380 fatalities compared to 2020.

CPD Responds To A Motor Vehicle Accident On Laurel Road

Earlier this evening, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to an accident at the intersection of Laurel Rd. and Glenside Dr. involving a Clarkstown Central School District school bus and an SUV. The SUV struck the bus while it was making a left turn onto Laurel Road. Preliminary reports indicate the SUV was traveling above the speed limit, causing it to veer off the roadway and strike a nearby house. Fortunately, all individuals on the school bus, including students, were unharmed. The driver of the SUV sustained injuries that were treated on-site by medical personnel.
