Traffic Alert: GFNY World Championship Bicycle Race Passing Through Haverstraw – Sunday, May 18

The Haverstraw Police Department would like to inform our community that the GFNY World Championship Bicycle Race will be coming through Rockland County, including the Town of Haverstraw, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, between the hours of 8:00 AM and approximately 12:00 PM.
This annual event brings hundreds of cyclists from around the world through our area.
        Here’s the route they’ll be taking through Haverstraw:
  • Entering the Village of Haverstraw via Route 9W
  • Traveling down Short Clove Road to Broadway
  • Continuing on Beach Road, heading north to Bear Mountain
  • Returning into Haverstraw near Willow Grove Road and Call Hollow Road
  • Climbing to the top of Halley Drive in Pomona
  • Exiting to the area of Quaker Road and Camp Hill Road into the Town of Ramapo
The Haverstraw Police Department will be on-site assisting with traffic control throughout the event to ensure safety for both participants and residents.

Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps Makes History with Delivery of Fifth Ambulance

NANUET, NY — In a major milestone for emergency medical services in Rockland County, the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps (NCAC) is proud to announce the historic arrival of its fifth ambulance, marking the first time in the organization’s 83-year history that it will operate five ambulances simultaneously.

The newly delivered Ambulance 22B5, a state-of-the-art emergency vehicle, will be placed into active service in the coming days. Once operational, it will immediately begin serving residents across the Town of Clarkstown, strengthening emergency response efforts and ensuring faster, more efficient medical care.

“This ambulance delivery has been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to finally have 22B5 here,” said a spokesperson for the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps. “With this new vehicle, we’re better equipped than ever to respond to emergencies and support the health and safety of our community.”

The addition of a fifth ambulance comes as Nanuet EMS continues to meet growing demand for emergency services in the Clarkstown area. The new Horton-built ambulance, delivered by VCI Emergency Vehicles, features the latest in medical technology, safety systems, and crew comfort, offering a modern and reliable response solution for both routine calls and large-scale emergencies.

Since its founding over eight decades ago, the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps has remained a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to providing lifesaving care and rapid response services throughout the region. The delivery of 22B5 marks a turning point in the Corps’ legacy, reflecting both its historic roots and its forward-looking mission.

With five ambulances now in its fleet, Nanuet EMS is better positioned to:

Reduce response times

Support mutual aid and disaster readiness

Improve patient transport capacity

Expand EMS support at community events

Hillcrest Fire Company Rescues Trapped Driver After Serious Two-Vehicle Crash on Palisades Parkway South

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — At 6:54 AM on May 15, 2025, the Hillcrest Fire Company was dispatched to the scene of a serious two-vehicle accident on the Palisades Parkway South, prompting a swift and coordinated emergency response.

Upon arrival, Chief Bowers (6-1) found one of the vehicles—an SUV overturned and off the roadway, resting on its side in the wooded area. The driver of the SUV was trapped inside the vehicle, requiring immediate extrication efforts.

Firefighters from 6-Squad and 6-Rescue quickly moved into action. They worked to stabilize the overturned SUV and then utilized hydraulic tools to cut off the vehicle’s roof in order to safely remove the trapped occupant. The operation required precision and teamwork, with responders working diligently under challenging conditions.

The successful extrication was a testament to the skill and preparedness of the Hillcrest Fire Company crews. The condition of the driver has not been officially released, and the cause of the accident is currently under investigation by local authorities.

This incident highlights the critical role of Rockland County emergency services in responding to life-threatening situations on local highways, including the frequently traveled Palisades Parkway. Motorists are reminded to drive safely and remain alert, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be reduced.
