ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Over one hundred motorcycles roared through the Bronx and Rockland County today as part of the Annual NYPD Detective Miosotis P. Familia Remembrance Motorcycle Ride, honoring the life and sacrifice of the 12-year NYPD veteran who was tragically killed in the line of duty on July 5, 2017.

On that day, Officer Miosotis P. Familia was sitting in a marked police vehicle following her overnight shift when she was ambushed and fatally shot. The senseless attack shocked New York City and the nation. A devoted single mother of three and caretaker for her aging mother, Familia’s legacy continues to inspire law enforcement and civilians alike.

Saturday’s remembrance ride was organized by the SWORN GUNS MC NORTHERN CHAPTER and escorted by NYPD Highway 1. The procession began in the Bronx, with stops at the 46th Precinct and the very site where Detective Familia was assassinated, before continuing north to Leo Laders American Legion Post 130 in Rockland County.

Leading the effort to preserve her mother’s memory is Genesis Familia, who continues to advocate for the rights of survivors of fallen officers. Genesis is actively working to ensure that families of those who gave their lives in the line of duty receive the full benefits and recognition they deserve.
